Workshop 1 of 3: Designing for Neighbourly Social Connections
The workshops are designed as a series, with each workshop building on the previous sessions. During each session, participants will hear from guest speakers, engage in small breakout group discussions, and connect with planners and professionals across Canada. All workshops will be hosted online via Zoom.

Learning objectives
- Understand how the built environment can impact social wellbeing and what design considerations are important for supporting wellbeing in multi-unit housing
- Assess your community’s policy context and identify areas where multi-solving is possible for other challenges (e.g., aging populations, climate adaptation / mitigation, emergency preparedness)
- Explore how to find community support for socially connected housing projects
- Identify barriers to implementation of new social wellbeing policies
- Explore policy and design considerations for different housing typologies and demographics
- Identify potential barriers to implementing new policy that supports social design and wellbeing, and discuss potential solutions
