Mei Lan Fang
Mei Lan Fang is an Assistant Professor of Urban Aging at Simon Fraser University, jointly appointed in the Urban Studies Program and the Department of Gerontology, and a Visiting Scholar in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Dundee. Her work focuses on co-creating healthy, inclusive, and age-friendly communities through participatory and community-engaged research.
Mei’s research examines how neighbourhoods, community spaces, and care systems can better support older adults – particularly through age-friendly design, seniors’ centres as vital “second places,” housing and care transitions, climate resilience, and the ethical and social dimensions of emerging AgeTech. She works closely with community partners, seniors’ organizations, caregivers, and older adult co-researchers to strengthen social connectedness and belonging.
Over the past decade, Mei has led and contributed to a wide range of projects including senior-led research initiatives, participatory workshops on health and digital technologies, music-based dementia care programs, and place-based advocacy to support community infrastructure for aging populations. Her work emphasizes practical knowledge mobilisation and collaborative approaches to building equitable, intergenerational, and socially connected communities.
