New housing legislation from the Province of BC will mean more homes, but it’s not just density that matters.
Through its partnership with Hey Neighbour Collective, Building Resilient Neighbourhoods helped to bring Connect & Prepare to three new BC municipalities, in collaboration with resident champions, housing operators, local government emergency management and community planning staff, and non-profit organizations.
Governments have become interested in reducing loneliness and social isolation and strengthening resilience and collective emergency preparedness in these settings.
On June 22nd, Hey Neighbour Collective and co-hosts Happy City, Concert Properties and SFU Morris J Wosk Centre for Dialogue held a panel and webinar to discuss the City of Vancouver’s role in catalyzing Concert’s Connecting our Communities approach and more.
The pilot aimed to Increase a sense of community amongst residents within their buildings, decrease the frequency and intensity of loneliness among residents, support participating buildings to feel like home, and not just a temporary place of residence, and more.
The Hey Neighbour Collective emerged from collaboration between staff involved in the City of Vancouver’s 2018-2019 Hey Neighbour! pilot project and a number of advisory committee members working on similar projects.
