Approach being tested

SSS staff focus on facilitating social connections between neighbours as part of a wraparound suite of integrated, practical supports for seniors addressing social isolation, housing navigation, transportation, food insecurity, housekeeping, and physical activity.

One pilot is taking place in a BC Housing-managed building in New Westminster. City staff will partner at this building to provide additional supports, such as emergency preparedness assistance and a “digital inclusion” project to help seniors access information about financial assistance, government benefits, and health services.

SSS is leading a similar pilot in three Brightside Community Homes Foundation buildings in Vancouver in collaboration with Brightside staff.

Participating communities, buildings, and residents

  • New Westminster, Vancouver
  • Four buildings total
  • Non-profit, rental
  • Total number of units – 227
  • Across all four buildings, approximately 80% of residents are older adults
